A. E. Monnett, better known to his friends as "Ed" Monnett, died Sunday at Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of seventy-one years, according to a telegram received yesterday by relatives, says Monday's Bucyrus' Telegraph. The body is being brought here for funeral and burial, but information as to arrangements has not been received. A member of a family prominent in Crawford County for years, the deceased leaves many friends in that and Marion counties. He was born in Marion County and farmed there and in Bucyrus township. About 1888 he moved to Nebraska which has since been his home. He lost eyesight a year ago and has been in a precarious condition for some time. Deceased is survived three children1, Walter, of Montana; Irvin, of Sidney. Nebraska, and Rose, of Orange. Illinois. Surviving brothers and sisters are Ephraim B. Monnett and Mrs. J. C. Tobias of Bucyrus. Mrs. Linus H. Ross of Bucyrus Township; Mrs. G. H. Wright of Marion; M. J. Monnett of Los Angeles, California; Madison W. Monnett, of Indianapolis, and M. H. Monnett of Sonora, California. There are many friends in and about Bucyrus who will remember the deceased and learned with sincere regret of his death. The deceased would have reached his seventy-second birthday on October 3rd. Bucyrus Telegraph Forum, September 1917 A.E. Monnett Former Well Known Farmer and Stockman Passed Away Sunday At His Home At Sidney, Nebraska – Remains Will Be Brought To Bucyrus And Interment Will Be Made In Oakwood Cemetery. A.E. Monnett, a well-known farmer and stockman of the southern part of Bucyrus Township died Sunday at Sidney Nebraska, Sunday. A telegram announcing the death was received here by relatives Monday forenoon. The remains will be brought it Bucyrus and funeral services will be held here, but it remains it is not known when the remains will arrive in this city and the time of the funeral will be announced later. Internment will be at Oakwood. Mr. Monnett’s death was due to infirmities incidental to old age. For nearly a year he had been blind and had been confined to a hospital for some time. He was aged 71 last August 1.2 The deceased was the son of A. and Catherine Monnett and was born in Marion County Ohio. He was united in marriage with Miss Walton who died several years ago. To this union three children were born, Rose resides in Orange3 Ill., Irvin a resident of Sidney Ill.4, and Walter, who is located in Montana. He is survived by 5 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: E.B. Monnett, Bucyrus, Mrs. J.C. Tobias, Bucyrus, Mrs. Martha Wright, Marion, Ohio, M.J. Monnett Los Angeles, California, M.W. Monnett, Indianapolis, Ind., M.H. Monnett, Sonora, California, and Mrs. L.H. Ross, south of Bucyrus. Mr. Monnett left Crawford County 28 years ago and located in Iowa where he followed farming and stock raising. He was very successful, owning 1,000 acres of land at the time of his death. He was a member of the M.E. Church and a man well and favorably known and held in the highest esteem by all.
