JOHN T. MONNETT DIES LAST NIGHT

Creeping Paralysis Is Cause of Death

HE REACHES THREE SCORE AND TEN

At One Time One Of The Wealthy Farmers Of This County, His Later Years Are Spent In This City – Funeral Services To Be Held Thursday Afternoon.


John T. Monnett, for whom Monnett Station was named died of creeping paralysis at the Central Emergency hospital, Tuesday evening at 7:20 o’clock,  He was removed to the hospital from his home on North State Street about three weeks ago.

Mr. Monnett was at one time one of the wealthy and prominent farmers of of Marion County.  He was the son of the late Abram Monnett, and was born in Scott Township, February 26, 1844.  He was reared upon the old homestead farm and received his education in common schools.  He was married to Miss Minerva Harvey, September 17, 1863.  She died about a year ago.

When the Short Line Railroad was built, Mr. Monnett donated the land for the station and the siding.

The deceased is survived by three children1 – Byron E. Monnett, Mrs. W.A. Dallas and Mrs. E. N. Wilson, all of this county.

The funeral will be held at the Dallas home on the Harvey Road north of this city, Thursday afternoon, the Reverend J.A. Sutton of LaRue officiating.  Services will also be held at Epworth M.E. church at 4 o’clock.
