Mary Jane Hull  Monnett 1849-1906

CALLED TO HER REWARD

Spirit of Mrs. J.G. Hull Released From
Suffering Body -- Funeral Was Held
at Residence Thursday Forenoon

Once again Findlay has been called upon to surrender to the invincible hand of death one of her most loved and respected daughters in the person of Mrs. Mary J. Monnette Hull, who died at her home on West Sandusky Street, Monday evening at 6:40 o'clock. This will not come as a surprise to the many friends throughout the city who for the past few days have been waiting anxiously; fearing, yet hoping for some cheering word from, the sick woman's bedside, for in the more recent hours of her suffering the word had been passed from home to home that in all probability there could be no hope for her recovery.

Perhaps no woman in Findlay could count a greater number of real friends. Blessed as she was by nature with physical charms, a splendid intellect and sweet disposition she had embellished her with added culture and refinement that gave to it an influence that time can never measure and now that she is no loner among her friends in physical life, earth will seem a little higher and heaven a little closer. Mother will still live on as her children continue to emulate the sweet qualities of her noble life.

The deep sense of lass outside the immediate family will of course, be most keenly felt by Mrs. Hull's neighbors.  No woman can live the home mother-life as she has done, giving as the product of her love and care six splendid young women without at the same time forming ties of acquaintances and friendship that will be left sore and bleeding when torn asunder.

Mrs. Hull was a public-spirited woman. With her husband she was always interested in whatever would contribute to the city's growth and progress. She was a member of the Carpe Diem and previously of the Bay View circle. Her interests were not confined exclusively to secular affairs, but she was an ardent Christian having been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church from the time when she was a little girl. She first united with the church tit La Timberville in Marion County under the labors of Rev. Stephen Fant.

Her death was as peaceful as her life, the end coming so easy it was difficult to know when the last faint breath was gone. Her sickness of inflammatory rheumatism elates back over the past five weeks, during much of which time her suffering was intense, but she bore her cross without murmuring and now has her reward.

During the holidays Mr. and Mrs. Hull had planned to have all of the brothers and sisters, at their home together with their children but because of her sickness she was compelled to forego that pleasure and the family meeting that had become an annual affair occurred at the home of a sister, Mrs. Tobias, of Bucyrus.

Mrs. Mary J. Monnette Hull was born in Marion County, September 12. 1849, being 56 years, 4 months and 3 days old at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Abraham and Catherine Braucher Monnette.  She was the eighth child of a. family of twelve children, all the others still living. The surviving brothers and sisters are Ephraim Monnette, Mrs. Elsie Malcolm Mrs. J. C. Tobias and Mrs. L. H. Ross, of Bucyrus; Mrs. G. H. Wright, Oliver Monnett, John, Monnette, M.H. Monnett, of Marion; A. E. Monnette of Sterling, Colorado and Mr. M.J. Monnette, of Goldfield Nevada and M.W. Monnett of Indianapolis., Ind. It is expected that the brothers and sisters will all be a to attend the able to attend unless, perhaps, M. J. Monnette of Nevada who may be hindered because of the great distance.

Mary J. Monnette was married to Jasper G. Hull, March 10, 1868. To this union six daughters were born, all of whom are still living They are: Mrs. Reed Metzler, Miss Besse and Miss Bernadine all of this city, and Mrs. Frank Winders, Mrs. Max Moorehouse and Mrs. C. A. Bond, all of Columbus.  Mrs. Hull is also survived by ten grandchildren.

The funeral services was held from the house Thursday morning at 9 o'clock interment being made at 2 o'clock, the same clay at Marion. R". H C. Jameson, an old pastor of the deceased assisted by Rev. E.O Crist of the First M.E. Church, officiated.
