Madison W. Monnett 85, a banker in Bucyrus 50 years ago, died Tuesday in Indianapolis where he made his home for many years after leaving Bucyrus. Information here concerning his death is meager. The body will arrive in Bucyrus Thursday and funeral services will be held in the First Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Monnett Cemetery south of Bucyrus. Long a member of the Masons, Mr. Monnett will be given a Masonic burial with: Bucyrus lodge No, 139 in charge. Lodge will open at 1:30 and following a formal session, members will go in a body to the church for a ritualistic service. Following the church service they will accompany the body to the cemetery where the commitment service will be performed. Mr. Monnett was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Abram Monnett and was born in Scott Township, Marion County on August 5, 1851. Coming to Bucyrus he was the first cashier of the old Monnett bank, the forerunner of the Bucyrus City bank. He served as cashier of the Monnett bank from 1881 to 1886 and following that for a short time operated the Knisley Springs farm and resort. He is survived by .his widow and two children, Mrs. Edith Williams a resident of Florida and Ernest Monnett who lives in the northwest; one brother, Melvin of Los Angeles and one sister, Mrs. Linus Ross who formerly resided south of Bucyrus but who is now living in New York City. |
