His death was due to a complication of ailments, with heart disease probably the direct cause. Mr. Monnett had been confined to his bed for about five weeks and during this time his condition grew steadily weaker, allowing for anything but a slight hope for recovery at one time. Mr. Monnett was one of the wealthiest citizens of this city, being the owner of much land in both Marion and Crawford Counties. He was sixty-six years of age having been born in Scott Township, August 12, 1840. He was the son of Abram Monnett, descendant of poor Virginia pioneers who came to Pickaway County in this state in 1814. The family moved to this part of the state in 1835. A few years later Abram Monnett was married in Pickaway County to Miss Catherine Brougher1. Shortly after his marriage he came to Marion County and purchased forty acres of land in Scott Township. This little farm formed the nucleus of his extensive land holdings which were destined to pass into the hands of his descendents. Oliver Monnett was one of twelve children, ten of which are still living. When a young man he moved into Crawford County where he was married to Miss Mary Ellen Raymor, August 15, 1867. He lived in Crawford County with his family until about nine years ago when he moved to this city. His wife died here December 22, 1903. Five children were born, of this number the survivors are Mrs. Harry Lott, Mrs. M.J. Hamilton and Mr. Charles A. Monnett, all of this city. Of the family of twelve that Mr. Monnett was a member, those living are Mrs. J.H. Malcolm, Mrs. L.H. Ross, Mrs. J.C. Tobias and E.B. Monnett of Bucyrus; A.E. Monnett of Sidney Nebraska; M.J. Monnett of Goldfield Nevada; M.W. Monnett of Indianapolis; Mrs. G.H. Wright, John T. Monnett and M.H. Monnett of this city. Mr. Monnett was a leading member of Epworth M.E. church having been identified with that denomination during the greater part of his life. The funeral will be held at the Monnett home at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon and will be followed by internment at Marion Cemetery. The services will in charge of D.H. Bailey, pastor of Epworth M.E.
