MONNETT FAMILY MEMORIAL
GROUP
This section is comprised by a very large
black granite family marker bearing the name MONNETT, and then
an “avenue” of smaller personal stones, again in black
granite. The intent
was to create a well-designed monument to the family.
However, by the time the stones began to be used, Monnett
Chapel as a preferred cemetery had passed; several of the
smaller stones thus were used to denote when a family member was
buried elsewhere.

(Above) Monnett Chapel
Cemetery, Monnett Memorial.

The G.H. Wright Family marker
(cast metal) was placed in the cemetery when the Wright's
planned to use the cemetery as collective resting place.
Originally only one member of the family was laid to rest at
Monnett -- G.H. and Martha Ellen Monnett Wright's infant
daughter Mattie who died at age 9 months. Later, the Wright's
eldest son Earl was buried at the cemetery, but in an unmarked
grave.
