(Image1) The Jeremiah Crabb Monnett house, east facade, as it looked about 1910. |
(Image 2) The last remaining section (southern section, looking at the east facade) of the Jeremiah Crabb Monnett home, outside of Whistler in southern Pickaway County, Ohio. Originally five bays wide (see photo at left) the home was partially demolished in the 1920's when a more modern house was built (seen in this picture) on this site. The wood lean-to along the left (south) side of the house can be seen in this picture and the view in Image 1. One of the original windows remains on the west facade (see below). |
(Image3)Looking north from Ross County Ohio towards the Jeremiah Crabb Monnett Homestead (center elevation), outside of Whistler in Southern Pickaway County Ohio. The original family burial ground was located in the grove of trees to the left side of the picture. The family originally chose this portion of southern Ohio to settle in because it reminded them of the rolling hills of western Maryland. |
(Image 4)The remaining west facing facade of the Jeremiah Crabb Monnett home, Pickaway County Ohio, shows the common bond pattern of the bricks (all made on-site) as well as the random ashler pattern of the field stone foundation. An original window, six over nine light pattern, remains intact with some original glass. Along the left of the remains of the house is the concrete block wall erected sometime after the 1920's. |

(Image 5) Looking westward from the rear of the house (see image 4) is a view of the knob that was once the home of the Monnett family burial grounds. Jeremiah Crabb Monnett's parents, Abraham Monnett and Ann Hillary Monnett were buried here in early 19th century, but were later relocated to the Whistler, Ohio's cemetery around 1910. This view can be seen from inside the home through the last remaining window also visible in image 4. |
(Image 6) Looking northward down and across the Kinnikinick Prairie , down the drive leading from the homestead to the road. The Abraham and Anne Hillary Monnett cabin was located near the area marked by the nearest telephone pole. |
